Brooklands 2015: Italian Oddity

This is a very rare Abarth Vignale 750 Sperimentali "Goccia". Designed in 1957 by Michelotti for Vignale to a brief from Carlo Abarth for a production Abarth based on the Fiat 600 running gear. Abarth didn't like the result! So, the Zagato 750 'Double Bubble' went into production instead.

"Goccia" means raindrop and refers to the car's radical aerodynamic shape. Two of these are known to have survived and this one was discovered by the present owner in Malta in 1984. This car originated from Sicily and took part in the Targa Florio in 1957, 1958 and 1960.
